On Saturday, April 25, I’m delighted to host my very first pilot of Circles of Conversation in Brixton setting the pace for what I hope to be a national dialogue inviting African and Caribbean intergenerational women to come together, share stories and shape a collective path forward.
How this all began
I recently completed the first book of my memoir, “She’s Home.” While I shared chapters with people who’ve grown up in the UK, I discovered something powerful: those conversations sparked deep, meaningful connections. It was through these exchanges that the seed for Circles of Conversation took root – the belief that our voices deserve space, listening and nourishment.
What Circles of Conversation aims to be
In a world that rarely slows down, these circles offer a deliberate pause to honour our experiences. We’re weaving together the stories of African and Caribbean women across Britain, acknowledging shared journeys and unique perspectives. This pilot is more than an event; it’s a learning process for us, a chance to gather insights, and form a foundation for a potentially nationwide circuit.
Why now?
Internal conversations between the African and Caribbean communities across Britain feels overdue. By creating a safe, listening-forward environment, Circles of Conversation invites us to explore themes that matter most – identity, belonging, resilience, and culture. The goal isn’t to prescribe solutions but to elevate voices, uncover common ground, and co-create the next steps together.
Looking ahead
This pilot will be an important milestone and an opportunity for my team and I to learn, adapt and refine our approach. We aim to understand what resonates most, what needs adjustment, and how we can best support future circles across the country.
If you’re curious about participating or simply learning more, I’d love to hear from you. Together, we can nurture a space where intergenerational wisdom meets contemporary experience, guiding us toward a more connected future.
